Rustenburg - Expelled ANC Youth League leader Julius Malema will no longer address Implats workers in Rustenburg on Thursday, for fear of being arrested, the Friends of the Youth League said.
“It has come to our attention that members of the SA 1/8Police Service 3/8 were instructed by a politician to arrest us, since the mine workers and event organisers were refused a permit to hold the meeting,” the FYL said in a short statement.
Malema said on Wednesday that he would address the mineworkers at Impala Platinum's mine in the North West on Thursday to encourage them to demand higher salaries.
He made his declaration following his court appearance in Polokwane on Wednesday for money-laundering.
Last week, Malema was prevented from entering a stadium in Marikana filled with striking Lonmin mineworkers.
Police said this was because he was not a worker involved in the labour dispute that the mineworkers had gathered to discuss. - Sapa
