The Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation Unit (SCCI) has arrested Ciniso Masuku (30) in connection with alleged fraud involving the R1.2 million Corporate Social Investment (CSI) Programme of Standard Bank of South Africa.
Masuku appeared on Wednesday in the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court, sitting in Palm Ridge Magistrate's Court. He turned himself in to authorities earlier in the day and was processed at Johannesburg Central Police Station on charges of fraud and theft under the Prevention of Organised Crime Act.
The accused faces charges alongside his aunt, Dr Nomsa Masuku, and another co-accused, Phillip Roux. Both co-accused have already appeared in court and were granted bail of R20 000 and R10 000, respectively.
An investigation by the Hawks revealed that Masuku allegedly benefited unlawfully from the trust fund as a recipient of undue payments.
The court granted Masuku bail of R20 000 under strict conditions. The case has been remanded to February 6, 2025, for further proceedings.
