MUSIC and motion pictures will meet once again at the Sound on Screen Music Film Festival at Labia on Orange from Friday until November 13.

The programme will feature a range of music-linked documentaries, concert films and tour movies.

Opening the festival, concert film Björk Biophilia Live delves to emotional depths on Friday at 8.30pm, and again on Sunday at 8.30pm and Wednesday at 8.30pm. More than 130 young conductors from all over the world converge on the Italian city of Trento to compete in the Antonio Pedrotti International Competition for Orchestra Conductors in One Minute for Conductors on Saturday at 1.45pm, and Monday at 6.15pm.

In Austin to Boston on Saturday at 4pm and Tuesday at 8.30pm, bands Ben Howard, The Staves, Nathaniel Rateliff and Bear’s Den play in bars and barns along the way after a fire-fuelled final night at Austin’s SXSW Music Festival.

The Story of Rock n Roll Comics, on Saturday at 6.15pm, Monday at 8.30pm and Thursday at 6.15pm, is a documentary about Todd Loren and his unauthorized comic book creations of bands like Kiss, Sex Pistols, Pink Floyd and Metallica.

While some artists wanted to sue him, others backed him – and then he was murdered. On Saturday at 8.30pm, Wednesday at 6.15pm and Thursday at 4pm, Ministry – Fix looks at Al Jourgensen and Paul Barker's groundbreaking band Ministry during their mid-1990s tour, at the top of their game and on a self-destructive collision course.

Bright Vision, on Sunday at 1.45pm and Tuesday at 6.15pm, looks at Aisling Gheal, a group of women passionately keeping Sean-nós (Irish traditional music) alive. Amongst them is 10-year-old Shahira Apraku who attends the local Gaelscoil and embodies an entire new generation of Irish speakers.

The documentary The Heir of Liszt, on Sunday at 4pm and Wednesday at 4pm, tells about the unusual life of the 11-year-old piano genius and composer Michael Andreas Häringer and sheds light on some of the lesser known aspects of the biographies of his famous ancestors, Franz Liszt and Sophie Menter.

Find out more about music’s therapeutic qualities in The Healing Notes on Sunday at 6.15pm and Monday at 4pm. The Garnati Ensemble uses the notes of Schumann, Handel or Bach to help soothe pain.

On Tuesday at 4pm and Thursday at 8.30pm, the documentary March of the Gods – Botswana Metalheads looks at the metal scene in Botswana and focuses on the band Wrust. Bands, fans and musicians give insight into the subculture and its history.
