TWO men are expected in court on Monday after they were caught on camera allegedly assaulting a petrol attendant at a filling station in Wellington.

In the video, the attendant is seen interacting with one of the men, when the other comes around and pushes him on the shoulder.

What appears to be a verbal altercation ensues. The one man walks towards the attendant, who hits him with a window washing tool, while the men proceed to punch the attendant who eventually falls to the ground.

They are seen hitting and kicking the attendant in the head multiple times.

The attack ends when another car pulls up and the men move back to their car.

Police spokesperson Anelisiwe Manyana said they were investigating charges of assault with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm and a case of crimen injuria.

The victim had been taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of injuries sustained during the incident.

“Wellington police registered an assault common case for investigation following an incident that took place on March 1, 2025 at around 11:40pm at a petrol station in Wellington.

“Reports reveal that the complainant was on duty when a white Golf came in and parked at the petrol pump. It is alleged that the complainant asked the driver who was standing outside the vehicle with his friend to move his vehicle to the parking area.

“The suspect then started swearing at the complainant and ended up assaulting him together with his friend. The complainant was taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment due to injuries sustained.

“The case has been changed to assault with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm and another case of crimen injuria was added.

“Two suspects aged 25 and 29 were arrested on Thursday, March 13, 2025.”

The two are expected to make their first court appearance on Monday.

The filling station where the alleged incident took place did not respond to requests for comment on the matter by deadline.
