Cape Town - The Covid-19 pandemic, although by then losing its bite, still had South Africa in its grip at the beginning of 2022.

The adjusted alert level 1 lockdown that had been in place since October 1, 2021, eventually ended April 4, 2022.

The National State of Disaster was lifted on April 5. And the face mask regulation finally fell on June 23, 2022, after two years.

And throughout that unprecedented era, your favourite daily publication was there.

We were there when the Phala Phala farm robbery became public knowledge, and when the Zondo Commission report was released.

We joined you in mourning the loss of several high-profile figures such as ANC deputy secretary-general Jessie Duarte, rapper Ricky Rick and recently amapiano star and businessman DJ Sumbody.

This news wrap would not be complete without the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial, or the accused Parliament arsonist Zandile Christmas Mafe.

We celebrated with you when Banyana Banyana won the African women’s football championship.

We broke the news of the release on parole of Chris Hani’s killer Janusz Walus after nearly 30 years behind bars.

This week when the ANC held its national conference, we were there.

But now it’s time to rest, and this is the final edition of 2022 as the team takes a well-deserved rest.

Normal publication schedule will resume on January 3, 2023.

Happy holidays to all our loyal readers, subscribers and advertisers.
