Durban — An elderly couple were allegedly robbed of their valuables and VW Polo during a home invasion in Avoca Hills, north of Durban.

Marshall Security managing director Tyron Powell said that on Thursday evening, an elderly couple were held up by three armed suspects in their home, who then robbed them of valuables and their VW Polo.

“At approximately 7pm, members of our special operations team were alerted to a house robbery in Edenderry Road in Avoca Hills. Our team members immediately responded and arrived on the scene. An elderly couple had been held up by three suspects, one armed with a firearm and another with a knife. The suspects spent approximately 15 minutes rifling through the house for valuables until leaving in the couple’s silver VW Polo,” Powell said.

He said that their team members later assisted Tracker SA in locating the VW Polo.

“After an extensive track, the vehicle was finally recovered in the Ntuzuma B – Section by the Tracker SA ground team assisted by members of our special ops team, Cartrack ground team, Ntuzuma SAPS and other private security. The items taken during the house robbery were nowhere to be found,” Powell said.

He added that the scene was secured and would be investigated further by the police.

Police spokesperson Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo said that the complainant alleged that on Thursday, at 6.30pm, he was at his home in Avoca Hills when he was accosted by three armed men.

“At gunpoint, the suspects robbed him of his cellphone, TV and shoes, and drove away in his vehicle. A case of robbery was opened at Greenwood Park police station for investigation,” Ngcobo said.
