Durban — An argument between two neighbours left one of them dead in Phoenix, north of Durban, on Friday night.
KZN VIP spokesperson Gareth Naidoo said that they were dispatched following reports of a shooting along Palmview Drive near the Shastri Park Library.
Naidoo said that when KZN VIP arrived, they learnt that an argument apparently broke out between two neighbours which resulted in the suspect shooting the victim.
“The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the facial area and sadly was later declared deceased while waiting for an ambulance,” Naidoo said.
“The suspect was taken away by SAPS and the firearm used in the shooting was also recovered.”
Meanwhile, Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa), which also responded, said that the man was killed by his neighbour during an apparent dispute over loud music.
Rusa spokesperson Prem Balram said that they received a call from a resident reporting a shooting at 10.11pm.
“Reaction officers were dispatched to the scene and on arrival found the Phoenix SAPS and other private security companies in attendance. The incident occurred at approximately 8.30pm,” Balram said.
“It was established that one person was arrested after he shot and killed his neighbour during a heated confrontation.”
Police spokesperson Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo confirmed the incident. “(The victim) was declared dead on the scene. The suspect was arrested by Phoenix police for murder.”
