Durban — Blue Security has paid tribute to its armed response officer who was gunned down in Phoenix on Thursday night.
On Friday, Blue Security remembered armed response officer Premchund Mohanlall.
The private security company said it was a sad day for their “Blue family”, as they announced the tragic passing of officer Mohanlall, who was killed in the line of duty on Thursday.
“Thank you, Premchund, for your service and bravery, daily laying down your life for the communities you served.”
Blue Security said that Mohanlall had been a member of Blue Security for 10 years and had been committed to serving and protecting the community daily.
“He will forever be remembered for his dedication to community safety and his positive and energetic character,” Blue Security said.
The company said that during this tough time, it held its fallen hero and his family in its thoughts and prayers.
It also thanked its industry partners and the community for the heartfelt tributes pouring in.
“Officer Prem, we salute you!” it said.
Mohanlall was shot dead on Thursday night at around 8pm.
Netcare 911 spokesperson Shawn Herbst said the service responded to a shooting on the Phoenix Highway near Phoenix Plaza in Phoenix, north of Durban.
Herbst said reports indicated that an armed response officer, while parked on a grass patch next to the road, had been shot while seated in his bakkie.
“When medics arrived on the scene they found the patient, an adult male approximately 40 years old, lying on the floor,” Herbst said.
“The patient was assessed; however (he) showed no signs of life and was sadly declared deceased by an Emer-G-Med paramedic.”
It was reported that four suspects had been arrested in connection with the shooting.
Police have been approached for comment.
