Durban — The eThekwini Municipality has indicated that cable theft and load shedding caused an interruption of water supply in Umlazi and Mfume in the south of Durban.
In a public notice, the municipality said it was aware of the interruption of water supply affecting areas including Mfume, KwaKhanyile, Mashiwase, Nkwali and KwaSoni.
On Tuesday, the municipality said technicians were attending to damage to the Mfume pump station, which was caused by cable theft.
The repairs were expected to be completed on Tuesday.
However, the water supply will depend on the Eskom load shedding schedule for the reservoirs to recover.
“Load shedding and a reduction in water from Umgeni Nagle Dam to the Durban Heights Water Treatments Works are also affecting water supply to some parts of uMlazi including K, J, L, M, BB, AA and CC sections, Ensimbini and Folweni,” the municipality said.
It said that it was working with Umgeni Water to boost the water supply in affected areas.
The municipality also apologised for the inconvenience caused.
