Durban — A child was among three people killed in a crash involving a truck and a car on the N2 in the Umzumbe area on Saturday night.
KwaZulu Private Ambulance service spokesperson Chantell Botha said the service responded to reports of a collision on the N2 in the Umzumbe area.
Botha said when emergency services arrived they found that a truck and car had been involved in a collision, resulting in the truck leaving the road and crashing down an embankment.
“Paramedics quickly assessed the scene and found that one patient, a young child, had sustained critical injuries. The patient was treated on scene, but sadly the patient succumbed to their injuries, despite the efforts of advanced life support paramedics,” Botha said.
“A second patient sustained serious injuries and was trapped in the truck. Together with Ray Nkonyeni Fire and Rescue services, paramedics worked for over an hour to free the patient using specialised rescue equipment.”
Botha said the patient was then transported to hospital for further treatment.
“Sadly two occupants sustained fatal injuries and succumbed to their injuries before emergency services arrived,” Botha said.
Police have been approached for comment.
