Durban — The driver of a BMW was killed and the vehicle he was travelling split in two after he crashed into a light pole in Phoenix.
Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa) spokesperson Prem Balram said the driver of a silver BMW was killed in an accident after his vehicle struck a light pole and split in two on Station Road in Eastbury on Sunday night.
Balram said a passer-by contacted Rusa at 7.37pm requesting assistance at the scene.
“On arrival, reaction officers found the Phoenix SAPS on scene. It was established that the driver of a BMW was killed after his vehicle struck a light pole and overturned. The car then crashed into a tree resulting in the vehicle splitting in two,” Balram said.
“The rear of the vehicle was recovered in a bush several metres away from the front half,” he said.
Police spokesperson Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo said that police were called to Eastbury Drive where a vehicle had crashed.
“On arrival, the man was stuck in his vehicle. He was declared dead on the scene,” Ngcobo said.
“A case of culpable homicide is being investigated by Phoenix police,” Ngcobo said.
