Durban — A man has been gunned down outside a petrol station in eManzimtoti, south of Durban.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Shawn Herbst said that on Tuesday at about 10.18am, Netcare 911 responded to a shooting outside a petrol station on Kingsway Street in Warner Beach.

Herbst said reports indicate that one person had been gunned down in what was alleged to be related to ongoing taxi violence.

“When medics arrived on the scene, they found an adult male seated in the driver’s side of his bullet-riddled car,” Herbst said.

“The man had sustained multiple high-calibre gunshot wounds throughout his body.

“The patient was assessed by an emergency care practitioner. However, he showed no signs of life and was declared deceased on the scene,” Herbst said.

He also said that the circumstances leading up to the incident will be investigated by Amanzimtoti SAPS who were on the scene.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Nqobile Gwala said that a case of murder is being investigated by Amanzimtoti SAPS.

“A 40-year-old man was entering a laundromat parking lot on Kingsway Road when a bakkie blocked him from behind. One of the suspects alighted and fired shots at the victim before fleeing the scene in his getaway vehicle. The victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the body and was declared dead at the scene.”
