Durban — A man believed to be 30 was shot dead in Newlands West.
According to Emer-G-Med spokesperson Kyle van Reenen, just after 10pm on Friday, Emer-G-Med paramedics were called to assist the police following a shooting on Jack Castle Avenue in Newlands West, north of Durban.
When paramedics arrived, they found a male, approximately 30 years old, had sustained fatal gunshot wounds.
“There was nothing paramedics could do to assist the man; he was declared dead on arrival,” Van Reenen said.
He said the facts surrounding the incident and the events preceding it were unclear and would form the subject of a SAPS investigation.
Police had not commented by the time of publication.
Earlier this year, a 15-year-old boy was shot dead in a shooting in Newlands East.
It is alleged that on March 1, at 10pm, three males were standing outside a tuckshop on Barracuda Road when they were shot by unknown people.
“They were rushed to the hospital where a 15-year-old succumbed to his injuries on arrival,” police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Nqobile Gwala said at the time.
Charges of murder and attempted murder were opened at Newlands East police station for investigation.
