Durban – On Wednesday magistrate Mngadi, who did not want to give her name or initial, granted Ayanda Ntombela R20 000 bail with conditions that he reports and signs at the Hammarsdale police station three times a week and that he does not interfere with State witnesses and or elicits other persons to do so.
The matter was adjourned to November for further investigations, there were several witness statement, chain statements as well as the post-mortem report were still outstanding.
When Ntombela made his first appearance last week in court his matter was adjourned to Wednesday for a formal bail application and at the time the State had indicated that it would be opposing bail.
According to the family, the officer could not specify why he was arresting Sihle Mtshare, however, when they went to look for him the following day at the Mariannhill police station nobody knew about his case.
The family after having searched nearby police stations and hospitals took to social media posting Mtshare as missing and it was this act that saw the family contacted by someone who said he had been arrested the same night as Mtshare and he helped the family by identifying the officer who had arrested him.
It’s alleged that the identified officer denied arresting Mtshare or even knowing him, however following an investigation he was arrested.
After two weeks the family said it received a call from the Independent Police Investigative Directorate to come and identify a body at Camperdown.
