Durban — It might be a different year but the same rules apply this festive season with regards to refuse collection and soliciting gifts by staff in the eThekwini Municipality.
This was made clear in a statement issued by the municipality on Wednesday where it said that soliciting Christmas gifts by Cleansing and Solid Waste (CSW) staff is not allowed.
“While it is the season of giving, CSW staff are strictly prohibited from soliciting gifts, including cash from residents. Residents are also advised to be wary of imposters posing as CSW workers to solicit gifts,” the municipality said.
It said the unit would also like to encourage all residents and visitors to minimise waste and to practise the three Rs - reduce, reuse and recycle.
On the collection of refuse during the festive season, the municipality advised residents that refuse removal services will continue as normal during the festive season, including on public holidays. Residents whose waste collection days fall on a holiday will be collected.
“The public is urged to place their refuse bags on the verge on the morning of collection days,” the municipality said.
It said that orange recycling bags will not be collected from December 27. Collection will resume on January 4, 2023.
It also said that CSW offices will be closed on December 26 and 27 as well as on January 2. However, operational staff will be on duty throughout the festive season.
For any enquiries, residents can contact the CSW helpline on 031 311 8804 (during working hours) or email [email protected]
