Durban – Two armed suspects allegedly held up an MTN store employee at the Westville Mall and made off with 15 cellphones and cash.

Information circulating on social media alleges that the store was robbed by two suspects travelling in a white Renault Duster.

Police spokesperson Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo said a woman alleged that at 3.50pm on Tuesday, she was working at a business premises in Westville when she was accosted by two armed suspects.

“At gunpoint, the suspects robbed her of 15 cellphones and cash before fleeing the crime scene,” Ngcobo said.

“A case of business robbery was opened at the Westville police station for investigation.”

Westville Mall management confirmed that two armed suspects held up staff at the MTN store on Tuesday afternoon.

“Our security team were immediately on site where patrons were ushered to safety and warning shots discharged. There were no injuries and no damage to property,” management said.

“Unfortunately the perpetrators escaped in a car with cloned number plates.”

The management urged anybody witnessing suspicious activity to report it to mall security or management.
