Durban — A man identified by a rape and house robbery victim was remanded in custody following his court appearance days ago.

The rape and house robbery happened on April 23 this year.

Marshall Security managing director Tyron Powell said that on Monday, August 19, at approximately 3pm, the firm received information from a victim of a house robbery and rape in April in the Glen Anil area.

Powell said the victim reported seeing the same suspect walking along Spruce Road in Glen Anil.

He said several armed reaction vehicles and Marshall Security’s Special Operations Team officers were immediately dispatched to the scene.

“Upon arrival, Marshall Security members quickly identified the suspect on Spruce Road. When the suspect noticed the security team, he attempted to flee by jumping fences into neighbouring properties. After a brief yet intense foot chase, the suspect was successfully apprehended by Marshall Security officers,” Powell said.

He said Greenwood Park police detectives who had been managing the house robbery and rape case since April, were quickly called to the scene.

The detectives confirmed that the apprehended individual was indeed the same suspect responsible for the violent crime in the Glen Anil area.

“Remarkably, the suspect was still wearing a jacket stolen during the initial robbery,” Powell said.

Powell added: “This successful arrest highlights the dedication and co-ordination between Marshall Security’s Special Operations Team, Armed Response, and SAPS Greenwood Park detectives in bringing justice to victims and ensuring the safety of the community.”

KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda confirmed that a 39-year-old man was arrested for house robbery and rape and has appeared in the Durban Magistrate’s Court.

“He appeared in the Durban Magistrate’s Court today (Friday) and was remanded in custody until August 29,” Netshiunda said.
