TV personality Danté Carlo Poole is chuffed to be nominated for Best TV Presenter at the upcoming South African Film and Television Awards (Saftas).

This recognition comes on the back of his contribution to the popular SABC2 show, “Hectic Nine-9”, further highlighting the essence of youth representation in the nation’s entertainment sector.

The National Film and Video Foundation released the 18th annual Safta nominations last month, showcasing an impressive 347 entries that exemplify the creativity and diversity thriving within SA’s film and television industry.

The upcoming awards promises to be a celebration of local talent and Poole's nomination stands out as a symbol of hope and determination.

Expressing his gratitude, Poole, who is just 26 years old and hails from Cape Town, said: “This is my first Saftas nomination and I feel exceptionally honoured by the recognition from the South African Film and Television Industry.

“I want this nomination to serve as a beacon of hope to those who dare to dream.”

He continued: “If it is possible for me, then there’s no reason why it can’t be possible for you.”

From an early age, Poole was always a spirited child with a love for performance. He describes growing up in an extroverted family that encouraged him to pursue authenticity and courage.

“Life so far has been filled with turning my dreams into reality. This is my seventh year in the broadcasting industry,” he shared.

Reflecting on his childhood inspirations, Poole said: “Growing up, I loved the magical feeling television would give me. It was like the whole world stood still, and it was just me and my favourite talk show.

“Watching my favourite presenters on TV gave me hope.”

He acknowledges that the drive to create that same feeling for others propelled him into his career.

His journey in the industry began at age 15 when he started MCing and hosting events.

“MCing gave me the confidence to stand in front of the camera and present. This led me to my big break at 19, landing the hosting gig on a show called ‘Hectic On 3’ on SABC3.

“Having just wrapped up season 17 of ‘Hectic Nine-9,’ I’ve been fortunate enough to receive this Saftas nomination,” he stated.

Apart from his television accolades, Poole is also making waves on-air as a digital correspondent at Kfm 94.5, the Western Cape's leading commercial station.

He credits his parents for being his greatest influence, describing them as “the epitome of strength and perseverance”, continually reminding him that “my dreams are valid and that I am just as worthy as anyone else to be in the room”.

Looking ahead, Poole expresses his aspirations for future ventures: “I would like to venture into the world of lifestyle television and be a part of a show that helps to elevate people's lives in the most informative and entertaining way possible.

“I have big dreams for radio and can’t wait to see where it will take me. Additionally, I’ve always loved the world of acting and film. All I can say is … watch the space!”
