South African television veteran Tshepo Maseko, is set to host a new Showmax show, “Ubuthe Uzobuya”, which will premiere on October 29.
The show, produced by Barkers Media, follows individuals left behind by partners who have simply disappeared, leaving them to face probing questions from family, friends, and even their children.
The show tracks their emotional journey as they seek answers and, in some cases, hope to reunite with their missing spouses.
Maseko known for his iconic role as Parsons Matabane in “Isidingo”, will guide participants through these difficult conversations with his experience as both an actor and presenter.
Speaking about the new series, “Ubuthe Uzobuya’s” executive producer, Mpho Lengane, shared that the inspiration came from stories heard while filming another series, “Ngi Shade Wrong”.
“The inspiration for Ubuthe Uzobuya came during the filming of Ngi Shade Wrong. We uncovered stories of men who had left their homelands for the city in search of better opportunities, often leaving their families behind.”
The show promises a mix of heartfelt reunions and heartbreaking revelations.
One particularly striking story Showmax mentioned involves a man who moved from the Eastern Cape to Johannesburg and started a new relationship. When his wife eventually found him, he chose to return home, leaving his new life behind.
Maseko’s role goes beyond presenting, his ability to engage participants and viewers alike will be critical to the show’s success.
His prior work, including his roles in “Lithapo” and “Streets of Mangaung”, as well as his time as a presenter on “Gospel Classics”, has shown his skill in handling complex emotions and difficult situations.
