‘A year filled with pain and loss’, says Katlego Danke as she mourns the loss of Sello Motloung and other stars

Award-winning actress Katlego Danke has paid tribute to the celebrated actor Sello Motloung, saying she could not believe the 54-year-old was no more.

The acclaimed actor’s family confirmed his death in a statement, but they did not disclose the cause of death.

“We are devastated to inform you of the sudden passing of Ntate Sello Motloung on Sunday 15 September. His family is in shock and we ask that you give them space at this time,” said the Motloung family in a statement on Monday morning.

South Africa’s entertainment industry, this year has experienced several deaths, from screen actors to those behind the scenes.

In her tweet, Danke reflected on the deaths that happened in the last nine months.

“This is proving to be a very difficult year. A year filled with pain and loss.”

She then shared words of comfort as paid tribute to her friend and referred to Motloung as a brother.

“I suppose we also have to remind ourselves of the gift and true celebration of life. Sello… my brother, my friend… I will miss you. I can’t believe I’m saying these words but RIP”.

At the weekend, news broke of death of Darlington “Papa G” Michaels, while kwaito star Sandile Ngwenya, known to his fans as Mapaputsi, was laid to rest on Saturday.

The month before that legendary actress Connie Chiume known for her roles on “Gomora" and “Black Panther” died in August. While fans were still dealing with that loss, Crown Gospel Awards founder Zanele Mbokazi also passed away.

Women’s Month ended on a sad note, with the deaths of two prominent entertainers; Radio and TV personality Thabiso Sikwane and praise poet and singer Jessica Mbangeni.

In May, actor Mpho Sebeng died in a car accident, he starred in Mzansi Magic’s “Ring of Lies” alongside Motloung as his son.
