The late actress Michelle Botes, renowned for her previous portrayals of iconic villains in South African television, takes on a gentler role as a mother and confidant in the new series “Tuiskoms”.

The former Isidingo actress died at the age of 63 in December last year. In her last interview with the publication Bruis, Botes opened up about her two-and-a-half-year battle with advanced multiple myeloma, a rare, incurable type of blood cancer that affects the bone marrow.

Botes is well-known for her role in “Isidingo” as villain Cherrel de Villers-Hains-le Roux, who viewers had a love-hate relationship with. She also starred in “Binnelanders” and later M-Net’s telenovela “The Legacy”.

In 2006, she won two awards: Best Actress and Best Onscreen Villain at the nineteenth annual Avanti Awards and she has won a SAFTA Golden Horn Award for Best Supporting Actress in the Telenovela in 2021.

“Tuiskoms” is Netflix’s new Afrikaans-language series set to debut on February 28, 2024.

The seven-episode series follows Fleur (portrayed by Amalia Uys), a chef and mom facing a tough set of circumstances. Down but not out for the count, Fleur relocates to restart and refocus in search of a new opportunity.

Produced by Infinity Films, a widowed chef loses her restaurant and house overnight. She must return to her mother’s home in Wilderness with her daughter. Through the town, its people, and a flower shop she starts on a new journey that ultimately sets her free from her husband’s death and brings her to love again.

The romantic comedy, directed by renowned South African actress Nina Swart, boasts a stellar cast of some of South Africa's most beloved Afrikaans actors, including Dawid Minnaar, Marvin-Lee Beukes, Edwin van der Walt, and the esteemed Pierre van Pletzen.
