Ah, Nelly and Ashanti, the “it” couple of the 2000s who have turned their on-again, off-again relationship into a roller-coaster we just can't look away from.
These two started as a sizzling hot duo back in 2003 when they dropped “Body On Me” and we all collectively thought, “Okay, this can’t just be professional chemistry.”
By 2004, they were making it known they were a couple. Ashanti even appeared in some of Nelly’s music videos and the relationship blossomed with every public appearance.
Everyone had the same question: Are they or aren’t they together? Well, we all know the answer now: they were couple before they weren’t and then – surprise – they were back together again.
By 2007, the love story hit a road bump when the couple suddenly went MIA from the public eye. Breakup rumours started swirling and we were left wondering whether they had parted ways or just gone incognito.
Over the next few years, their relationship remained a mystery. There were times they popped up together in public, sparking hope of a reunion, but other times, they were completely off the radar.
In 2013, they officially separated, and we thought that was the end of that chapter. But hold up, because in 2023, love knocked again, and these two reunited like no time had passed.
Their relationship may have had more ups and downs than a season of “The Bachelor”, but clearly, timing is everything.
And now, Nelly and Ashanti are ready to share their whole love story with the world – on TV, no less. Peacock has ordered a docuseries that will dive into their personal and professional journeys.
According to “Deadline”, the series has been in the works for a few months now, and it promises to take fans behind the scenes of their rekindled romance.
This docuseries is from Critical Content, who who brought us Netflix’s “Sly” and MTV’s “Catfish”.
Nelly, real name, Cornell Haynes II, put it perfectly when he said: “We’ve been through a lot, and we’re excited to show what’s real.”
Ashanti added: “Our journey hasn’t always been easy, but it’s been worth it. We hope this series inspires others to believe in second chances and true love.”
