As Cape Town cements its place as the jazz capital of the continent this month, a new voice is adding her magic to the city’s rhythm.
Soulful, bold, and genre-defying, Bongi Mvuyana arrives in the Mother City this Saturday, March 29, for a one-night-only live performance of her latest album, POWER, at Youngblood Gallery.
Arriving just in time to kick off April’s global Jazz Appreciation Month, Mvuyana’s show is more than a concert—it’s a masterclass in modern storytelling through music. Fusing jazz, folk, gospel, and electronic soul, POWER is a deeply personal body of work from a fiercely independent artist who has emerged with new sound, new voice, and a clear sense of purpose.
“These shows are deeply personal and incredibly exciting for me,” says Mvuyana. “It’s a chance to bring POWER into an intimate live space and share not just the music, but the stories and experiences behind each song.”
A standout on the alternative soul/jazz scene, Mvuyana’s unique tone and authentic presence have earned her acclaim across the country.
Her live performances are emotional, moving, and musically rich—perfectly aligned with Cape Town’s vibrant culture of live music and improvisation.
Backed by a full band, fans can expect fresh renditions of new favourites like “Ngizokulinda” and “Egoli”, along with beloved tracks from earlier works including “Dopamine.” The evening promises a seamless blend of introspection and celebration—wrapped in the warmth of jazz-laced soul.
