Playhouse Opera: Lerner and Lowe’s My Fair Lady comes to the Playhouse for 10 performances from March after sold out seasons in Cape Town and Johannesburg. Produced by Pieter Toerien Productions and Cape Town Opera, directed by Steven Stead, and designed by Greg King, It features a cast of 38 actors drawn from across the country, and stars Craig Urbani as Henry Higgins and Durban’s own Leah Mari as Eliza Doolittle. KZNSA Gallery: Opened this week is an the ArtsResearchLab exhibition, titled The InBetween, a group show featuring Lusanda Ndita, Jess Bothma, Tabea Erhart, Camila Mejia, Gabriela Valdespino, John Sempe, Abdulgaffar Tammaa, Ilona Karácsony and Kenneth Shandu.
KZNSA Gallery: (today) Get involved in the KZNSA Portrait Party on March 1 from 10am to 4pm. The gallery has created a large-scale portrait mural and needs help to reach the goal of 100 photographic portraits to be wheatpasted onto the main gallery wall. Bring your family, enjoy a drink, explore the exhibition, and sit for your photographic portrait made by some of Durban’s finest photographers. EVENTS
Centre of Creative Arts, UKZN: The Time of the Writer festival celebrates literature as a medium to promote social justice and equality. It features panel discussions by the likes of Chancellor Professor Reuel Khoza, Professor Salim Abdool Karim and Dr Mogale. Key engagements include journalist Antony Loewenstein on his book The Palestine Laboratory in which he investigates the Israeli military-techno complex, and Dr Gavin Evans from the University of London on his book, White Supremacy, which explores its roots from Darwin to Apartheid.
