Pretoria - “Let's do this Class of 2017” So said Kelly-Robyn Morey, who is among thousands of pupils starting their final exams this week.

“Our teachers have prepared us well, I feel ready to write,” Morey said. “After 12 years of schooling, we have finally come to our final exams.”

Monday sees the start of the National Senior Certificate exams for about 150 000 matrics in Gauteng. Exams start in 881 schools and centres across the province, with the last paper on November 28.

Monday sees the writing of foreign language papers, so for many the first exam is tomorrow's English Home Language, with the first accounting paper on Wednesday and mathematics on Friday.

Independent Examinations Board exams started with some computer and IT practicals and elective subjects, and it too begins with numerous foreign language exams Monday.

English Home Language paper one is on November 2, with the last English paper on November 23. The final Independent Examinations Board exam is on November 29.

The minister of basic education will release the overall results on January 4 and MECs for education will release provincial results - including Gauteng - on January 5.
