Durban - The Passenger Rail Agency Of South Africa(Prasa) announced that only single tickets would be sold as train services resume in KwaZulu-Natal on Monday.
In a statement on Sunday, Prasa KZN informed commuters about the resumption of train services between KwaMashu and Dalbridge from 6am to 6pm on Monday, June 6, 2022.
“Only single tickets will be sold, and every attempt will be made to run according to the advertised schedules until further notice,” it said.
The service between Durban and Merebank will run as previously announced, said Prasa.
“Prasa apologises for the inconvenience and thanks you for your patience,” it said.
Last week, Prasa announced that the service between Durban and Merebank resumed on June 1.
Prasa spokesperson Andiswa Makanda said the work that had been done to recover the services included repairing and installation of rail infrastructure and the removal of rubble following the floods that hit KZN.
“The resumption of services will be a huge relief to our commuters who rely on our cost-effective services. Metrorail is one of the most affordable and convenient modes of transport.
“The recovery of these lines supports Prasa’s recovery programme and strategy of rebuilding the rail network corridor by corridor.”
Metrorail posted a video of the first train leaving KwaMashu station this morning on its Facebook page.
“First train to depart from Kwamashu Station this morning. We are very pleased with this progress. We are committed to deliver on our mandate to provide a reliable and affordable service to the people of South Africa,” said the post.
Metrorail posted the schedule of trains from KwaMashu to Dalbridge and back on Sunday.
Prasa said customers could contact the customer services help desk between 6am to 6pm weekdays on 031 813 0456 or WhatsApp 066 014 6105.
