While the name Chevrolet and the word 'excitement' normally only get used in the same sentence when referring to cars like the Corvette and Camaro, the brand is using the upcoming SEMA aftermarket extravaganza in Las Vegas to show that its ordinary models can still inspire.

Just to whet our appetites, Chevrolet has released a raft of sketches and photos of hotted-up versions of its Malibu mid-sized sedan, Cruze, Sonic and even the little Spark runabout.

Chevrolet's marketing vice president Chris Perry explains: “At Chevrolet, performance comes in many different forms that appeal to many different customers - and that's exactly what we demonstrate at the SEMA Show,” before hinting that what we see here could have a basis in reality: “We play close attention to the reaction our concepts receive, because the feedback helps determine the viability for producing new accessories and even special-edition production vehicles.”

Malibu Turbo Performance Concept

The highlight of the common-car line-up is a version of the Malubu 2-litre turbopetrol, which produces 193kW. Sorry, but no V8 motorvation here, but it does at least look the part thanks to a Berlin Blue Tricoat paint job that goes along with a front splitter, rockers and rear diffuser as well as a bespoke lower grille and 20-inch alloys finished in Knight Rider chrome.

Inside it's kitted with Recaro sport seats trimmed in Jet Black leather and Navy Blue suede amongst other novelties and to improve the road holding, the concept is fitted with HiPer Strut front suspension and rear springs.

Cruze Upscale

As its name implies, this version of the Cruze sedan is all about luxury, although the company doesn't mention much more than a brown leather-trimmed interior job. On the outside it has a matching Burnished Brandy Metallic paint along with other unique exterior appointments.

Sonic Z-Spec 2.5

A tuner-inspired concept with the performance to back up its aggressive stance (although no figures have been stated), the Sonic Z-Spec 2.5 sedan shows what's attainable with Chevrolet Performance and Chevrolet Accessories parts, along with select aftermarket components and a dash of color.

Spark Sinister

The aggressive-looking concept blends rally-inspired exterior cues with a black appearance for a night-racing aesthetic that looks at home in the shadows of a city's industrial district.

Spark Z-Spec

This one was built from accessories that are already available through Chevrolet dealers in the USA.
