No, Mercedes fans, these are not spy shots - they're official pictures (and a video!) from Daimler, of what Stuttgart likes to call the CLA compact four-door coupé, due to make its world debut at the Detroit auto show in about a month.
The heavily camouflaged pre-production cars (apparently shot during winter testing) represent two different models: a standard two-litre turbopetrol model and the CLA 45 AMG, which has the same engine, tweaked at Affalterbach to deliver a muscular 258kW and 450Nm.
Not only that, both cars have a new generation of Mercedes' proven 4Matic all-wheel drive, developed specially for use with transverse engines.
It's no secret that the CLA is built on a stretched A-Class platform, sharing a lot of interior and mechanical components with the baby Merc; when we'll see it in South Africa has, according to MBSA, not yet been decided.
