Well, Mercedes-Benz might just have a way to minimise the amount of green fingers pointing in scorn at your convoy as it wafts by.
The new S 350 BlueTec is the most efficient S-Class ever made, with claimed combined fuel consumption of just 6.8 litres of diesel per 100km, equating to CO2 emissions of 177g/km.
Performance has not been sacrificed - quite the opposite in fact, with the power output having risen to 190kW, from the 155kW output of the previous diesel model that this replaces.
This S 350 also boasts a mammoth 620Nm of twisting force and according to the company, this big limo will whisk from standstill to 100km/h in 7.1 seconds.
What's more, its new AdBlue emission control system claims to offer one of the cleanest emission-combating solutions in the world.
This aqueous urea solution is injected into the exhaust flow and releases ammonia, which converts up to 80 percent of nitrogen oxides into harmless nitrogen and water in the downstream SCR catalytic converter.
The 25.7-litre AdBlue tank is installed under boot floor and the fluid is replenished in line with normal service intervals of approximately 20 000km. Mercedes-Benz dealerships throughout the country will assist with any necessary top-ups between service intervals, if required.
However, in order for its engine to run optimally, customers will need to fill their tanks with 50ppm low-sulphur diesel, which is not always a cinch to find.
The launch of this new S 350 also coincides with some spec additions for the 2010 S-Class range, most notably the inclusion of Active Blind Spot Assist and Active Lane Keeping Assist.
Active Lane Keeping Assist comes into play when, after warning the driver, the vehicle unintentionally moves over a solid line to the right or left. It then gently brakes the rear wheel on the opposite side of the vehicle to keep you from drifting over.
That could really save your life if you fall asleep behind the wheel, but it could be tad worrying if you suddenly have to make an emergency manoeuvre, in which case you'll have to remember to use your indicator before the car will allow you to change lanes.
Likewise, the blind spot system performs similar actions when you try to turn, after ignoring its warnings, when there's a car in your blind spot.
This should prove a useful tool to have, unless by some chance you have a strange fetish to enter a highly expensive luxury vehicle in a demolition derby.
