The hairstyle-tweaking version of BMW's new 4 Series Coupé wasn't due to be revealed to the world until late November, but an (allegedly) leaked brochure has given us an early viewing.

Replacing the open-air 3 Series, the all-new 4 Series Convertible is expected to retain its predecessor's folding metal roof format, while the car's increased length and width, along with reduced overall height, will give it a racier stance.

The Convertible will mimic the Coupé in offering a selection of BMW's latest turbocharged engines. Petrol options will include BMW's 180kW/350Nm 2-litre four-cylinder motor in the 428i and the 225kW/400Nm straight-six in the 435i.

High-milers can expect BMW to offer its 135kW/380Nm 2-litre turbodiesel in the 420d, which sips 4.7 l/100km in the Coupé version.

Although not officially confirmed yet, we wouldn't bet against BMW offering an open-top M4 , charged by the M Division's new six-cylinder TwinPower motor that pushes approximately 320kW and 500Nm.

Stepping inside, Convertible owners will find a driver-focused dashboard, sports steering wheel, automatic belt feeders and a freestanding, flat screen iDrive monitor for the infotainment functions.

The options list is expected to include BMW's latest Navigation System Professional with 3D elements as well as full-colour head-up display and Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go functionality.

No South African on-sale date has been announced as yet, but we'd be surprised if it didn't land here during the course of 2014.
