The good folk at Volkswagen have already tantalised us with all the details about the new GTI concept and now they're replacing the rough renderings with some pictures that show us how it really looks.

Making its debut at the Wörthersee festival in Austria this week, the GTI concept is a race car fantasy machine powered through all four wheels by a 370kW/560Nm 3-litre V6 turbopetrol that gets it to 100km/h in 3.9 seconds.

As reported earlier this week, the car has a bespoke sports chassis that makes it ready to tackle the most demanding of race tracks.

In terms of size, it's 15mm shorter and 57mm lower than the GTI road car (the overhangs were shortened and a long wheelbase retains) while the car has also been widened and sits on a set of 20-inch wheels.
