FMS turns VW Jetta into 317kW Jet

Sema Show, Las Vegas - Volkswagen's unassuming Jetta is shaking off its sensible shoes for America's favourite aftermarket fest.

Keen to show off the potential of its latest EA888 2-litre turbopetrol engine, which makes 162kW in standard guise, VW tasked FMS Automotive with creating the ultimate performance Jetta.

Various engine modifications, including the installation of an APR Stage 3+ turbo kit, rods, wristpins and performance pistons, push the output to 317kW - almost double that of the standard motor.

To keep things tidy around the bends, this Jetta's been equipped with an H&R Street coil-over suspension and H&R Sport anti-roll bars along with 19-inch TSW Jerez alloys while a Brembo braking system with four-pot calipers will screech it to a halt. No mention of an all-wheel drive system though, which is worrying.

No Sema showpiece would be complete without a stylistic makeover and thankfully the FMS Jetta remains more tasteful than tacky - to the point where it could even be considered a bit of a sleeper.

Nonetheless, it's still set apart from the standard Jetta mould by a Golf R front bumper, custom front splitter, widened wheel arches, side skirts and bespoke rear bumper.

Very little was left unchanged in the cabin, which sports a black and beige colour scheme with matching Recaro Sportster CS racing buckets, a custom 'sound box' and digital sound processor, alloy pedal caps and door sills and LED cabin lighting.
