Ford has announced that its all-new Transit panel van will be revealed to South Africans at the Nampo agricultural show, which takes place in the Free State from 14 to 16 May.
But hasn't Ford already launched a new Transit range in SA? Well that was the Transit Custom range. The 'plain named' Transit is a bigger beast that will slot above the Custom in Ford's commercial vehicle pecking order.
The boldly styled newcomer will be available in panel van, chassis cab and bus body configurations and powered by Ford's latest 2.2-litre Duratorq turbodiesel engine. Ford SA hasn't divulged any power figures as yet, but UK models offer output levels of 74kW, 92kW and 114kW.
The Transit panel van offers 13 790 litres worth of loading space and Ford brags about class-leading side door width and rear step height. The Transit also offers GVM ratings of up to 3.5 tonnes.
“The new Transit is an exciting vehicle for us,” Ford SA's Gavin Golightly said. “It marks an expansion of the Transit line-up in South Africa, and highlights Ford's continued dedication to bringing commercial vehicles to South Africa.”
Pricing and further details about the new Transit will be made available upon launch.
