While desirable as an upmarket soft roader, you could hardly say that the Land Rover Freelander has a sporty vibe about it.

This new limited edition, which has just broken loose in the UK, aims to rectify this but the pimping in this case is strictly superficial.

The Sport boasts a striking new exterior finish comprising of a new body styling pack that offers cleaner profiling to the front corners, a black finish to the grille and side vents and a choice of three colour schemes in either Fuji White, Santorini Black or the all-new Firenze Red.

A rear spoiler also features, together with 19-inch Shadow Chrome alloy wheels, body coloured door handles and mirror caps and privacy glass.

The interior is available in Ebony Windsor leather with contrast Pimento stitch, or Ebony Napoli leather with matching contrast Windsor leather highlight stripe on the seats.

Piano Black fascia finisher also features together with Ebony carpet mats with a contrast edge of either Ivory or Pimento.

The Freelander Sport is powered by the flagship turbodiesel engine of the range, that being the 140kW 2.2-litre unit, which gets from 0-96km/h in 8.7 seconds. Does one really need to go quicker than that in a Freelander?
