Although this seems like just another mid-life facelift, the most notable change being a redesigned front end that brings the little mite into line with Hyundai's latest design themes, Hyundai's new i10 also features a pair of ultra-frugal new petrol engines.
The new model is due in South Africa in mid-2011 and both new engines will be offered. At entry level, an all-new 1.0-litre, three-cylinder Kappa engine replaces the previous 1.1-litre Epsilon unit.
Despite its modest size, the new motor produces a decent 51kW (up from 49kW) and, with the aid of an idle-stop system (not confirmed for SA), is efficient enough to emit just 99g/km of CO2.
The 1.2-litre engine has also been upgraded, its power output rising from 55kW to 63kW, while sipping 8.7 percent less fuel and emitting just 108g/km of CO2.
Local specifications will only be released close to launch date, but UK versions get a high level of specification, including four airbags, electric windows, central locking and an iPod plug-in, while prices start at £8195 (R96 000).
