Mercedes-Benz clearly believes that there are enough pavement-hopping, school run slaves out there with an alter ego that's hungry for some octane-induced tyre-shredding on the side.
Which brings us to the latest Mercedes-Benz concept that's an almost dead cert for production, given that the company says its target market must "start looking forward" to it.
There's a rather simple mathematical sum at play here: A 45 AMG engine + GLA crossover body = Concept GLA 45 AMG.
Just to recap, that 2-litre turbopetrol heart is the most powerful series-production four-cylinder engine in the world, credited with outputs of 268kW and 450Nm. In this application, it'll allegedly storm to 100km/h in less than five seconds.
Its abundant power is sling-shot to all four wheels by an AMG-tuned Speedshift DCT seven-speed sports transmission and 4Matic all-wheel drive hardware.
Of course, the GLA 45 will be more at home on mountain passes than in the bush, although its raised centre of gravity will work against it to some extent.
Still, it'll hold on a lot more proficiently than your average crossover, its case furthered by chunky 21-inch alloys with low profile tyres, which also add to the flash factor along with its bespoke AMG exterior styling package that includes a huge front splitter and a rally-style paint job and rear wing that won’t make it onto the production model.
