New York Auto Show - Until now the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupé has impressed us with its seemingly timeless elegance and grace, but now the grandest Mercedes has a more sinister entry on its portfolio.
Enter the S 63 AMG Coupé. Its potent new 5.5-litre twin-turbo V8 packs a punch to the tune of 430kW and 900Nm and can whisk the stately two-door from standstill to 100km/h in as little as 3.9 seconds, its maker claims.
Should fuel consumption be of any concern to its hedonistic buyer, this S 63 is said to be the most efficient car in its class, and we'll wish you the best of luck in achieving its claimed combined consumption figure of 10.1 litres per 100km.
BACK WHEELS OR ALL?
As per AMG tradition, you can still have your power shoved to the back wheels, but those seeking a more civilized form of power delivery can opt for a “performance-orientated” AMG 4Matic all-wheel drive transmission.
However, the RWD model will tempt you with an AMG sports suspension system based on Merc's Magic Body Control system, which includes a “curve tilting” function that allows the car to lean into the bend like a motorcycle would.
The innovation, says Mercedes, allows for considerably more comfort and driving fun when you tackle the twisties at higher speeds.
The regular S-Class Coupé is scheduled to land on South African shores in November this year, with the S 63 AMG following during the first quarter of 2015.
