We can't imagine many VW fans not aspiring to own a GTI or R model, but finances often don’t play along when the latest and greatest performance hatch hits the streets.
Now Volkswagen has introduced a new package for the Polo in Europe, aimed at those who want to look fast without stretching the bank balance on a real hot hatch.
Enter the R-Line styling package, available on the ordinary 1.2 TSI Comfortline and Highline models. This piece of kit magically increases the perceived engine size with 16- or 17-inch alloy wheels, beefier front and back bumpers, bespoke black-gloss grille with 'R' badge, side skirts and a rear diffuser and spoiler. As the pictures illustrate, it's available with the three-door body style that's not offered in SA.
Volkswagen also offers a second phase package that adds some bling to the cabin with Alcantara/leather sport front seats, glossy black dashboard inlays, black roof lining and alloy pedals.
However, VWSA says that the R-Line package will not be offered in South Africa, with only the 'real deal' R models being earmarked for our market.
Do you see any point in a 'go fast' look without the performance to back and would you count yourself as interested if VW did offer this package here?
