Mercedes-Benz has revealed its new Sprinter commercial vehicle range and it's a lot more than just a 'workhorse'.
Its lengthy boast-list includes being - according to its maker - the most economical van in its class and the world's first van to meet the future Euro VI emissions standard.
On top of that, there's also a glut of new safety systems making their debut on the Sprinter, including Crosswind Assist, Collision Prevention Assist, Blind Spot Assist, Lane Keeping Assist and Highbeam Assist.
In terms of design changes, the Sprinter keeps its basic shape, but gets a more modern front end that appears to have been influenced by the latest Mercedes A-Class, with its angular headlights that follow the contours of the grille.
Inside the new Sprinter receives new upholstery, a thicker steering wheel and chrome surrounds on the air vents. There's also a new audio system with Bluetooth functionality and the Becker Map Pilot navigation system.
As before, the Sprinter is chugged along by a range of four- and six-cylinder diesel engines with outputs that range from 70kW to 140kW.
To reduce emissions levels to meet Euro VI standards, the engines use BlueTec engine and SCR technology that injects AdBlue into the exhaust gasses.
Buyers will get to choose between a six-speed manual and seven-speed 7G Tronic Plus automatic gearbox.
International deliveries start in September this year and the South African launch will take place at the Johannesburg International Motor Show in October.
