It's no secret that Mercedes-Benz is working on a small 'four-door coupe' to replace the CLC and now there are reports that the 'baby CLS' will also spawn a Shooting Break variant.

According to Autoweek, the green light for this small but sporty wagon has just been given by Mercedes-Benz boss Dieter Zetsche.

Its styling is expected to take some inspiration from the CLS Shooting Break concept that you see in the accompanying pictures, and the same applies to the bigger CLS Shooting Break production car, which will arrive before the CLC wagon.

The CLS Shooting Break is expected to surface by 2014 and will reportedly offer five doors and a sloping roof that will sacrifice practicality in the name of style.

As the CLC will be built on the next A-Class platform, most versions will be front-wheel driven and powered by a range of ultra-efficient new four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, but expect top models to offer the option of all-wheel drive.
