Brentwood, UK - Ford is getting ready to unleash its facelifted ST at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK this coming weekend, and it looks likely that a diesel version will also be announced.
It has been widely reported that an ST turbodiesel will be made available for the first time, powered by a version of Ford's 2-litre TDCi that’s been tuned to produce around 135kW. But please Ford, what ever you do, do not call it the STd.
It's not yet clear whether the petrol ST's 2-litre turbopetrol engine will be upgraded as part of the facelift package. In its current form this EcoBoost engine delivers a meaty 184kW and 360Nm, allowing a (claimed) 6.5-second 0-100km/h sprint.
The new ST will, however, benefit from the technology and quality improvements announced for the regular Focus range earlier this year. These included improved sound deadening, smarter-looking cabin trimmings and new gadgets like Ford's Perpendicular Parking assistant and Cross Traffic Alert.
All will be revealed on Friday 27 June when the new ST does its 'fly by' as part of the Goodwood Festival's First Glance category. Watch this space.
