Sitting quietly among the outrageous one-offs, custom specials and concepts at the 31st GTI Meeting at Wörthersee in Austria, the world's largest gathering of VW GTI enthusiasts, was this rather understated Polo.
But it is indeed worth a second look; this is the Polo WRC Street special edition, a homologation special in the true sense of the word. It's a street-legal version of the Polo R-WRC that Volkswagen will be fielding in the 2013 World Rally championship, complete with rear spoiler, diffuser, sports suspension and special R-WRC livery.
Under the bonnet there's a 162kW, two-litre TSI, providing the go to match the show.
And the best news is, it's a close-to-production preview of a limited-edition model that will be released late in 2013.
