Jokes about handbag-matching hues aside, there is often a unique set of traits that women look at when seeking a partner of the automotive kind. Let's not forget the tremendous purchasing power that women have in the motor industry.
Which is why a contest like the Women's World Car of the Year is so pertinent.
This year the panel of judges - comprising of female motoring journalists from around the globe - favoured the new Ford Fiesta 1-litre Ecoboost.
HORSES FOR COURSES
While the Ford took the honour of overall winner, ahead of the Mazda CX-5 and Range Rover, it was by no means the only victorious vehicle as the contest's various judging categories allowed a proper horses-for-courses approach, as Chief Judge Sandy Myhre of New Zealand explains:
"The Family Car category, for instance, includes child-friendliness, storage space and value-for-money and individually these aren't always appropriate on which to judge a sports car for example."
The Audi Allroad emerged as the family car of choice while the new Range Rover won the luxury car category and the Porsche Boxster S was deemed the best sports car.
In the SUV ranks it was the Mazda CX-5 that rose to the top while the overall winner came from the economy car category.
WHY THEY LOVE THE FIESTA
This Fiesta 1.0T Ecoboost won favour for its style, performance, economy and technology as South African judge Charleen Clarke explained:
"Now, of course, it comes with Ford's sensational styling and SYNC technology. The surprisingly good performance of the EcoBoost engine and superb economy means this is an unbeatable combination."
UK judge Victoria MacMillan Bell concurs: "The Fiesta has such a high-end look and feel to it.
"Pair this with the multi award-winning EcoBoost engine achieving range figures and performance never before seen and this very stylish pocket rocket wins in every category, with bells on."
