A 38-year-old Gqeberha man has died in a house fire on Tuesday.

Police said the incident took place at a residential premises in Lovemore Park, Gqeberha.

Eastern Cape police spokesperson, Captain Andre Beetge said on police arrival at the house, they found an adult woman and her child outside the house.

“They were both found with minor wounds in their heads.

“On investigation, police discovered that the other part of the house was completely destroyed by fire, and the body of the husband, aged 38, was found completely burnt in one of the rooms.”

Beetge said the cause of the fire is unknown and still under investigation.

“An inquest docket was opened and is being investigated by SAPS Walmer.”

In July, an elderly KZN man died in a house fire in the Queensburgh area in Durban.

ALS Paramedics said they responded to reports of a fire in the house and garage and that one person was in the house.

Spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said once given the all clear from the eThekwini Fire Department, ALS Paramedics assessed a male, believed to be in his late 60s or 70s, and found the man to have sustained fatal injuries.

“Unfortunately there was nothing paramedics could do for him and he was declared deceased on the scene.”
