Another mass shooting has rocked Cape Town after five people were shot dead in Mfuleni.
The incident took place at 1.30pm on Sunday, December 1.
The provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Novela Potelwa said no arrests have been made.
“Information gathered from the scene indicates that Mfuleni police were called out to the Madikizela informal settlement at approximately 1.30pm and upon arrival they found the bodies of five men with gunshot wounds between the ages of 19 and 30 in a shack on the corner of Polisa and Deputy Streets,” Potelwa said.
The motive for the shooting is not known at this stage.
“The motive for the shooting is the subject of a police investigation currently undertaken by the provincial serious violent crimes investigators. No arrests have been effected yet. Mfuleni police have opened a murder docket for investigation,” Potelwa said.
The Western Cape MEC for Police Oversight and Community Safety, Anroux Marais has expressed her horror at the mass shooting.
“My deepest condolences go to the families and loved ones of the deceased. Urge the South African Police Service (SAPS) to prioritise the investigation into this incident. I want to call on the public to assist authorities with any information which may assist the police probe,” Marais said.
She urged anyone with information to come forward.
“Anyone with information that could lead to arrests is encouraged to contact the SAPS. Together we can beat crime in the Western Cape,” Marais said.
