South Africans should prepare for a mixed bag of weather on Friday, as heavy rain, wind, and temperature shifts are expected to sweep across the country.
The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a Yellow Level 2 warning for disruptive rainfall over parts of the Western Cape, particularly around Worcester, where localised flooding of roads and settlements is expected.
A portion of the country, including parts of the Northern Cape, Free State, North West, and Limpopo, will experience isolated showers with a 30% chance of rain, while 60% of scattered rain is forecasted for sections of the Western Cape and Eastern Cape
Residents in these areas should anticipate wet conditions, particularly in the morning.
Despite the rain, temperatures will remain relatively warm to hot in most regions, with coastal cities like Durban and Port Elizabeth seeing breezy conditions from the Indian Ocean.
The interior regions of Limpopo, Gauteng, and the Free State will be mostly warm, while cooler conditions persist over parts of Mpumalanga and the Eastern Cape highlands.
Strong south-easterly winds of up to 40 km/h are expected along the KwaZulu-Natal coast, while the Western and Eastern Cape coastal areas will experience winds between 10-15 km/h.
These winds, combined with the rain, could create hazardous driving conditions, particularly in areas affected by the impact-based warning for flooding.
South Africans are advised to stay updated with weather alerts, plan accordingly for wet and windy conditions, and drive cautiously, especially in flood-prone areas.
