Judgment was reserved in Ferrel Govender's appeal against the refusal of his formal bail application.

The matter was heard in the Durban High Court on Tuesday morning.

Ferrel, 40, did not appear in court.

He is charged with the murder of uMhlanga businessman Shailen Singh.

The 32-year-old was gunned down in a parking lot on December 29, 2024.

The State alleged that Singh was killed over an affair. He was allegedly having an affair with Ferrel's girlfriend.

The State was represented by Senior State Advocate Krishen Shah while Govender was represented by SC Michael Hellens instructed by KZN attorney Ravindra Maniklall.

Shah argued that the Magistrate was not incorect in the refusal of bail as the State has a strong prima facie case against Govender.

Ferrel's co-accused his younger brother Darren Govender was among the spectators in the court room.

Darren is out on R200,000 bail.
