Johannesburg - The African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) on Monday urged matriculants to put in "extra commitment" when writing their National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations.

"The ANCYL knows that grade 12 has become more than necessary for the job market in South Africa," spokesperson Mlondi Mkhize said in a statement in which he urged students to do better than their predecessors.

The youth league said it was challenging "this class of grade 12 to do better than the previous matriculants. We hope that these matriculants will be able to reach 90% to 100% pass rate."

Meanwhile the South African National Civic Organisation (Sanco) has asked public transport operators to "demonstrate their patriotism by providing hassle free transportation of learners to their various examination centres across the country".

Sanco also called on community protests to be suspended to avoid disrupting examinations.
