The South African Weather Service (Saws) has issued two Yellow Level 2 warning for various parts of the country on Monday.
The weather service further warned that heatwave conditions are likely to persist in some areas.
According to Saws, residents in the north-eastern parts of the Free State, north-western parts of KwaZulu-Natal and the eastern Highveld and escarpment of Mpumalanga should brace for severe thunderstorms with excessive lightning.
The weather service has also warned of strong, damaging winds, hail and heavy downpours in these parts.
Saws has further predicted gusty winds and wild waves for the areas between Cape Agulhas and Alexander Bay.
Meanwhile, heatwave temperatures will persist in Gauteng, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, and over the central and eastern parts of both the North West and Free State.
Saws said areas in the northern and central parts of South Africa will also be hot.
"Heatwave conditions persist in the northern and central parts but temperatures are expected to dropout of the heatwave threshold in places in the Northern Cape, Eastern Cape as well as KZN", the forecaster said.
Saws further warned of an extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the central and eastern parts of the Northern Cape, over the central and western parts of the Free State, in places over the North West, the northern and western parts of Gauteng and the Western Bushveld and Valley of Limpopo.
