The City of Tshwane has issued a warning regarding a fraudulent job advertisement circulating on social media, urging job seekers to verify job postings through official channels.
Municipal spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said the City was aware of a misleading message making rounds on social media inviting job seekers for admin officers’ vacancies in the municipality.
“This false advertisement invites members of the community with a minimum of Grade 12 qualification to apply for the nine admin officers’ posts through the website: www.citijobs.co.za or WhatsApp their applications to 084 469 0885,” he said.
The advert states that applicants can view the official advert on the City website, specifying that a 0-12 of experience in the relevant field and a valid code B driving licence will be advantageous.
Mashigo said: “The message is devoid of any truth, as the city only advertises its vacant posts in newspapers and on the Job Forum page of its website: www.tshwane.gov.za. The city does not provide a WhatsApp number to forward applications for any advertised post.”
He said all the metropolitan municipality’s applications are done online by visiting the city’s public website and clicking on the E-Recruitment link.
“The public is cautioned not to fall for this scam, as there is no such advert issued by the city,” he said.
He warned that fake information peddlers will be arrested, charged and prosecuted, as their actions border on criminality.
“Further, we advise the public to contact the Tshwane Metropolitan Police Department on 012 358 7095/6 whenever they come across ‘job adverts’ that are issued outside the norms and procedures of the city’s processes,” he said.
